Ten Hag to Remain as Man Utd Boss: Reports
Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag is set to remain as Manchester United manager following a post-season performance review by club chiefs, British media reported on Tuesday.

The BBC reported that United are in discussions with the Dutchman about extending his contract at Old Trafford, which is currently in its final season.

Ten Hag Stays

Despite a poor second campaign, Ten Hag ended the season on a high note, leading United to a shocking 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final. However, speculation about Ten Hag’s future had intensified prior to the match, with reports suggesting new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe would sack him regardless of the outcome.

United's eighth-place finish in the Premier League, their lowest since 1990, and a group-stage exit from the Champions League added to the uncertainty surrounding Ten Hag's position. Following the FA Cup final, the former Ajax boss, 54, acknowledged the uncertainty of his future.

"The only thing I am doing is preparing my team, developing my team, progressing my team and individual players. This is for me a project," Ten Hag said. "When I came in, things were a mess. We are now better but by far not where we want to be."

Several managers have been linked to the United job since the season ended. Ratcliffe reportedly held talks with Thomas Tuchel last week, though the former Bayern Munich and Chelsea boss has since ruled himself out. Interest in Mauricio Pochettino has also cooled, despite his recent departure from Chelsea. Other potential candidates include Graham Potter, Thomas Frank, Roberto De Zerbi, and current England boss Gareth Southgate.

In his first season, Ten Hag ended a six-year trophy drought for United by winning the League Cup in 2023 and secured a third-place finish in the Premier League, raising fans' hopes for a title challenge in 2023/24. However, the team lost 14 games and ended with a negative goal difference, finishing 31 points behind champions Manchester City.

Ten Hag is United's fifth permanent manager since the end of Alex Ferguson's trophy-laden reign in 2013, following David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
