Van Nistelrooy Prefers Joining Manchester United's Coaching Staff Over Managing Burnley
Ruud van Nistelrooy
Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy reportedly prefers joining Manchester United's coaching staff over taking on a managerial role at Burnley, according to Dutch reports.

Manchester United have been in talks with their former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy to join Erik ten Hag's coaching staff, while Burnley is attempting to persuade him to manage their team, as per reports.

Dutch newspaper AD has indicated that van Nistelrooy is close to accepting United's offer to join ten Hag's staff.

It appears that United's project with ten Hag has excited the former Dutch striker more than Burnley's project, which will be in the Championship next season.

On Sunday, Fabrizio Romano, a journalist for Sky Sports Italy, reported that contact has been made with Ruud van Nistelrooy to be part of Erik ten Hag's new coaching team at Manchester United.

He added that changes could happen in Manchester United's coaching staff.

It is reported that the decision is up to van Nistelrooy, who is also a strong candidate to become the new manager at Burnley, replacing Vincent Kompany.

The former Dutch star may make his decision next week, according to the reports.

Days ago, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf mentioned that Ruud van Nistelrooy is the frontrunner to take charge at Burnley.

If the deal goes through, van Nistelrooy would succeed manager Vincent Kompany, who left to coach Bayern Munich this summer.

Burnley was relegated from the Premier League and will play in the Championship next season.

Van Nistelrooy, 47, played in the Premier League from 2001 to 2006, scoring 95 goals for Manchester United in 150 appearances.

Last year, he left PSV Eindhoven's coaching staff before the final stage of the 2022-2023 season.

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Netherlands national team in 2014 under Guus Hiddink and Danny Blind.

He then coached the youth teams at PSV Eindhoven before taking over as interim manager for the first team in six matches.

In 2020, he returned to work with the Netherlands national team as an assistant coach under Frank de Boer.

The following year, he became the head coach of PSV Eindhoven's Under-21 team, and at the start of last season, he took charge of the first team.
