Manchester United dealt unexpected blow as Thomas Tuchel opts for a break

British media outlets reported that German manager Thomas Tuchel has dealt an unexpected blow to Manchester United's managerial search.

Tuchel turns down Man United

According to The Athletic, despite holding talks with club decision-maker Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Tuchel has made the surprise decision to take a break from coaching for the upcoming season.

The report states that "Thomas Tuchel has decided against taking the Manchester United job, putting an end to talks with club officials."

It was understood that the Bayern Munich boss was the frontrunner to take over from Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Tuchel's unexpected decision is likely to prompt Manchester United to turn their attention to alternative candidates such as Roberto De Zerbi, Mauricio Pochettino, and Gareth Southgate.

Manchester United's hierarchy is expected to make a decision on Ten Hag's future in the coming days.
