Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United is under intense scrutiny, with a decision expected soon.

Ten Hag future

According to reports, legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson is urging the club to replace Ten Hag with a high-profile candidate. The push comes after United endured a challenging 2023/24 season, finishing eighth in the Premier League and exiting the Champions League at the group stage.

Despite these setbacks, Ten Hag did end the season on a positive note by leading United to an FA Cup victory over Manchester City last month.

As reported by TeamTalk, Ferguson is advocating for Mauricio Pochettino, who recently departed Chelsea, to take over the reins at Old Trafford. Ferguson reportedly has a close relationship with Pochettino, who previously managed Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur.

The report states, “Pochettino is someone of interest to United, and sources close to the former Southampton and Tottenham boss have confirmed to us that he has made it clear that despite only leaving Chelsea at the end of last season, he is ready to return to management.”

Pochettino made a public appearance at Stamford Bridge on Sunday night, coaching the World XI for Soccer Aid 2024. After the match, the Argentine commented, “I have full energy and I think we finished really well. Now we just wait and see what happens. In football, you never know—things can happen. Today, nothing, but tomorrow, an opportunity might appear, and we are open to listening.”

When asked about a potential return to the Premier League, Pochettino smiled and replied, “Open to football, we’re open to football.”

Manchester United is currently undergoing a review process to determine if Ten Hag is the right person to lead the club forward. The outcome of this review will significantly shape the future direction of the team.
